EUGENE, OREGON, JULY 5, 2025 - Kenyan Beatrice Chebet finishes in world record time of 13 minutes, 58.06 seconds, and the first sub-14 minute track Women's 5000 meters during the 50th Prefontaine Classic at Hayward Field.

 

Chebet is now the first woman, and only woman to run a world record sub-14 minutes in both a road and track Women's 5000 meters. She ran in 13:54 at the Cursa dels Nassos road race in Barcelona, Spain, Dec. 31, 2024.

 

The previous Prefontaine Classic meet record was in world record time of 14:03.69 by Gudaf Tsegay on Sept. 17, 2023. At the 50th Prefontaine Classic, Tsegay placed in third with a season best time of 14:04.41.
